Lady Royals Fall Just Short

Clermont-The Lady Royals’ season came to an end on Monday in the state semi-final matchup at the hands of the Branford Buccaneers by a score of 2-1. This was the third time in as many seasons that Jay made it to the final four. In a game where the Lady Royals got on base early and often, scoring runs was at a premium. In multiple innings, Branford would walk several Lady Royals, but almost always found a way to keep Jay off the scoreboard.

Laila Arnold totaled 12 strikeouts on the day, which got the pitcher out of several close calls when Jay had bases loaded or at least with runners in scoring position. On the mound for Jay was senior Jenna Toups, who struck out four of her own, allowing only five hits for the day.

Jay junior Brett Watson went 2/3 on the day and scored Jay’s only run. Senior Caitlyn Gavin and junior Brooklyn Sorrells both went 1 for 3 on the day.

This team has done incredible things this season and this senior group will be remembered for a long time. Their work ethic has been an example to younger players that hope to carry the torch for Jay Softball.

Great season ladies!
