Royals Win!

Wednesday-The #3 seed in region 1A will be hosting the regional championship this Saturday. At stake, will be a trip to the final four, Jay’s first since 2011. Jay traveled to Paxton on Wednesday and came away with a huge 9-6 win over the Bobcats.

The Royals had to overcome an early 4-0 deficit as the home team came out swinging in the first inning. Jay would slowly chip away throughout the night at Paxton’s lead, scoring one in the top of the 1st, then again in the 2nd, 5th, and 7th to tie. As the game went to extra innings, the 8th inning provided zero runs, but the 9th was altogether different. Jay’s offense would explode to put up 5 runs and take the lead for the first time since the top of the first inning.

With freshmen Nick Baxley on first after being walked, senior Tomas Ravendo hit a line drive to center field, scoring Baxley and making it all the way to third. Justin Smarr would then single, scoring Ravendo to make the score 6-4, Jay. Freddy Carnley would double, scoring one. Nathan Smarr also made it home by way of a sacrifice by Kade Gilbreath. Jay would hold the home team to 2 runs in the bottom of the 9th to win the game.

Up next for Jay is a home game due to the fact that #4 seed Holmes County upset Northview. Jay will host Holmes County on Saturday at 7:00pm.
