Lady Royals Cruise Over Crusaders
Monday-Jay (15-3) won it’s third game in a row by defeating Catholic(9-10), 46-35 at home. Jay used a big second quarter to distance themselves from the visiting Crusaders and that was enough to secure the win. All tied up at 11 after the first quarter, eighth grader Presley Hawthorne scored six while Darcy Locklin scored seven, which totaled all of Jay’s points in the second quarter. A stingy Royal defense held Catholic to only five in the period.
“…We got great minutes from Darcy Locklin who had eight points off the bench,” head coach Jorey Diamond stated after the win.
The Lady Royals outscored Catholic in the third quarter to add to their lead. Carleigh Baker was a big reason for that, scoring eight of her nine points in the third. Aubreigh Nelson lead the way for the Royals scoring 12 on the night.
“Presley, Aubreigh, and Carleigh led us offensively,” Diamond added. “Aubreigh was especially big down the stretch.”
The Lady Royals had some fun making the night “Retro Night.” The team wore the warmups from the 1990s.
Next up for Jay is senior night on Thursday, vs. Northview at Jay. (Tuesday’s game at Ponce de Leon has been canceled)
