Lady Royals now 12-1 with Win Over 11-2 Pace

The wins keep coming for first year head coach Jorey Diamond and this young group of girls as Jay traveled to Pace and avenged their only loss of the season on Friday night, 50-45. Pace topped Jay back in December, 55-38. Jay, currently ranked #5 in the state 1A rankings, saw 8th grader Presley Hawthorne explode against the Patriots, scoring 18. Fellow 8th grader Aubreigh Nelson added 11 for the Royals.

“What an amazing performance by our kids,” Jorey Diamond stated after the game. “Presley Hawthorne made some clutch baskets for us tonight.”

Down by one after the first quarter, Jay scored 17 in the second quarter to Pace’s 11, giving them a five point lead at halftime. Mattie Grimes and Hattie Locklin would combine for seven hard fought points in the paint during the quarter.

Pace would cut into the Royals’ lead in the 3rd quarter, trailing by only one point going into the fourth quarter, but the young Royals’ stingy defense held Pace to single digits in the last quarter, out scoring the Patriots 13-9.

“Defensively our kids showed so much heart and fight,” Diamond added. “I could not be prouder of the entire squad.
