North Santa Rosa

Royals Too Much For Jags

Friday-Jay (8-1) hosted rival Central (5-2) on Friday. It was apparent from the beginning of the game that the Jags would have trouble stopping the Royals from scoring, as Jay outpaced their rivals 36-16 at the break. Aubreigh Nelson, who led all scores with 16, had 10 in the first half. Maddie Grimes also had a big night, scoring 10.

“Aubreigh had her best game as a Royal,” head coach Jorey Diamond stated after the game. “She and Maddie Grimes dominated in the paint.”

The Jags came out in the second half and played better defensively, holding Jay to 10, but getting the ball inside was the answer for the Royals in the fourth quarter, allowing Jay to capitalize at the free-throw line.

“Carleigh Baker and Presley Hawthorne did an amazing job offensively tonight, not just scoring but facilitating to their teammates,” said Diamond.

Meanwhile, on the defensive end, the Lady Royals held Central to single digits in every quarter. And while not all defensive stats can be recorded as easily as offensive stats, the effort from his team collectively on that side of the ball is not lost on the head coach.

“Once again, this whole team buys into making every shot difficult for the other team,” Diamond stated. “So proud of how hard the whole team played.”

Up next for Jay is a home game on Tuesday as they host district foe Freeport.
