Veteran’s Day Celebrated at JHS
Local veterans were treated to a real day of honor on Monday as they were welcomed to JHS for their annual Veteran’s Day Assembly. Veterans were greeted at the door by members of JHS’ Student Government Association, the group that puts on the event, and served breakfast in the media center. After breakfast, the veterans were escorted to the auditorium, being welcomed by Jay Elementary students holding patriotic signs and saying, “Thanks for your service!” SGA president Mackenleigh Bledsoe and SGA Vice President Josie Lowry were the masters of ceremonies. The assembly consisted of the JHS Royal Pride Band playing Americana songs, patriotic videos, followed by guest speaker Circuit Court Judge Gary Bergosh. He was the XO of a Marine Corps Battalion and retired as a Marine Lt. Colonel. He presides over the Escambia County Veterans Court and has been a circuit judge for 16 years. Bergosh spoke to the school about the importance of service.
