In a game that came down to the last possession, Jay came up on touchdown short.

The first quarter was a battle of field position as both teams had a turnover and a punt.

The Royals would be the first to score, taking the lead 7-0 midway through the second quarter. Wewa would answer back, however, scoring right before the half and converting the two point conversion.

The second half started out just as the first half did, as neither offense could get much traction. However, a high snap over the punter for Wewa, would give the Royals excellent field position. The Royals would add a Gavin Shehan field goal to take a 10-8 lead in the fourth.

Jay looked as though they would be able to hang on, but a couple of off sides penalties would extend the Gators’ final drive. The Gators, with only one time out, would eventually beat the clock and punch in the go ahead touchdown on a designed quarterback run from the 3 yard line with 23 seconds left.

After a long scramble by quarterback Hayden Morris gave the Royals a first down at Wewa’s 45 yard line, a desperation Hail Mary pass on first down was intercepted as time expired.

The loss all but eliminates the Royals’ playoff chances.

Wewa 0 8 0 8-16

JHS     0 7 0 3-10
