Baker jumped out on the Royals early, scoring on their first drive. Baker’s all-state running back Kayleb Wagner gave the Royals problems the entire night.

On Jay’s opening offensive drive, the Royals went for the first down twice on fourth down. The first attempt the Gators were called with a face mask penalty, giving Jay a new set of downs. The Royals would then throw an interception on the following 4th and short. Baker would score on a short field with 3:25 left in the first quarter, making the score 14-0. Jay’s second drive started out promising, but would face a 4th down and didn’t convert. Wagner for Baker would do more of what he started, and add another touchdown for Baker with 5:35 left in the first half. Jay’s offense did put together a nice drive before the half, marching down to the 9 yard line. However, after an apparent miscommunication between quarterback and receiver, a wide open touchdown opportunity was missed for the Royals resulting in a Jay turnover on downs.

Jay received the ball to open the second half and again, marched into the Gator red zone, but fumbled at the 10 yard line. After forcing a stop on defense, the Royals would get the ball back, but quarterback Hayden Morris threw his second interception of the night at the 10 yard line. The Royals’ defense would get another stop, but another Jay turnover (fumble) would end all hopes for the Royals. Baker scored their fourth touchdown with 8:01 left in the game.

The Royals will need to get over this loss quickly as they host undefeated Northview next Friday.

Hayden Morris went 5/16 on the night, throwing for 74 yards and two interceptions. He would add 28 yards rushing.

Running back Brock Stout rushed for 69 yards on 13 attempts.
