North Santa Rosa

Mid Week Report with Head Coach Brian Watson

Jay (2-1) is traveling to Bonifay to face Holmes County (2-2). Jay is coming off the bye week, while Holmes County is coming off a loss to Sneads. Northsantarosa.com sat down with head football coach Brian Watson to talk about his team and this week’s opponent.

Q-Coming off the bye week, do you feel good about what you set out to work on? Spending time on Jay and fundamentals…

A-Sometimes off weeks can be good and sometimes can be bad. I would have liked to have played last week riding that 2 game win streak. It’s tough to keep the momentum going sometimes when you have an off week.

Q-There seems to be a buzz around the program that has been missing the last few years. Do you get the sense the boys are  believing in themselves and in the system the coaching staff has put in?

A-I think so. We’re on a two game winning streak and our JV team is on a two game winning streak…That’s 4 straight games our football program as a whole has won. I hope they’re buying in. Seem to be…at all levels.

Q-Holmes County is a good 2-2 team. They’re two loses are to two very good teams (Chipley and Sneads, both undefeated). What challenges do they present to your team?

A-They are very physical up front on both sides of the ball. They’re offensive and defensive lines are impressive. But, we’re pretty good upfront too. I’m excited to see us competing. It should be a hard, smash-mouth old school football game.

Q-What do they like to do offensively?

A-Holmes runs the triple option. Quarterback runs well. They stick to their assignments and do a good job reading what the opposing defense gives them. We’ve got to be disciplined on defense.

Q-This is the second away game that is over 2 hours away. What challenge does that present in your gameday preparations?

A-There’s alot of moving parts when you’re trying to move 50 people. You hope everything goes smoothly, but you have to expect some delays.
