Mid-Week Report With Coach Brian Watson
The Royals are in the middle of their off week. Fresh off their second win of the season and first shut-out (37-0 over Franklin County) of the year, Jay is sitting at 2-1 for the first time since the 2018 season. Northsantarosa sat down with Coach Watson to discuss how things work during the off week.
Q-Coach Watson, you have your football team at 2-1. Played a really good game last Friday where special teams, defense, and offense looked good. How do you go about keeping the boys’ attention during this open week?
A-We’ll lighten up practice. We’ll work on improving technique, execution and fundamentals. I’ve been happy with our physicality in all of our games thus far, so that’s not something we need to work on this week.
Q-What specific things are you wanting to work on during the off-week?
A-Execution of the offense. Triple option…trying to get timing right so we can make it a bigger part of the offense. A lot goes into learning the different options and reads, and everything can change based on what defensive front the opposing defense lines up with.
Q-Are you spending more time on Jay this week or Holmes County?
A-We’re working on Jay this week. We’ll focus on Holmes next week
Q-What challenges does Holmes County present?
A-They are big and physical…they run a lot of the same stuff we run. Option and belly type stuff. Going to be a physical night next Friday.
