North Santa Rosa

Breakdown of Jay’s Big Week 2

The Royals’ (1-1) got their first win of the 2022 season on Friday night by defeating Freeport (0-2), 24-15. It was also Brian Watson’s first win as Jay’s head football coach. Going into Friday night, Jay knew that Freeport would spread them out and test their secondary and that was exactly what happened. Freeport’s quarterback threw and threw often, but Jay’s secondary played disciplined and kept everything in front of them for most of the night. 3 interceptions for the Royals’ defense sealed the deal for Jay.
On the offensive side of the ball, Jay gashed the Bulldogs for 270 yards rushing. Sophomore quarterback Hayden Morris  was responsible for much of those yards with a 79 yard quarterback keeper (aka “Catfish”) towards the end of the 3rd that put the Royals up for good. TB Brock Stout rushed for  80 yards on 16 carries. FB Landyn Cooley added 106  yards on 17 carries and 2 TD’s.
Morris would go 4 for 8 throwing the ball, adding 79 yards through the air and 1 TD.

Next up for Jay is Franklin County. Check back in the middle of the week for a preview of that game and an interview with head coach Brian Watson.
