Big Winners and Some Surprises…Primary Election Results

On primary Tuesday, there were some surprising wins and really close results that had the candidates on the edge of their seat until the final votes were counted. The closest race was the Board of County Commissioner Race, District 2. Kerry Smith received 7,936 votes. Jeff Ates received 7,878. That’s 28.73% to 28.52%. That race has not been officially called. Santa Ross Supervisor of Elections has until Sunday to report any votes that may still be coming in by mail. It will probably then be decided in a recount.

Joel Rudman defeated Mariya Calkins to win State Rep for district 3 with an almost 2-1 vote, 14,556 to 8,373.

Local School Board races saw 2 of the 3 incumbents keeping their seats.

Carol Boston defeated Alisabeth Lancaster, 23,575 to 11,060 votes.

Linda Sanborn received 20,896 votes to Wayne Patterson’s 14,458.

Pete Peters, newcomer, defeated incumbent Scott Peden, 14,141 to 12,843.
