Royals Week 1 Report
Week 1
@ W.S. Neal
Last week, Jay lost to Walton, 31-14 in a preseason format. W.S. Neal lost to Geogriana, 18-14 in Alabama’s week 1.
The Royals are still missing several key seniors that are questionable for this week’s game and matchups may be difficult for the Royals. Hugh Fountain is in his first year as W.S. Neal’s head football coach. Fountain comes over to Neal after being the head man at Escambia Academy.
Neal’s offense in week 1 was a balanced attack with the Eagles running a mix of the I formation and spread.
“We’re going to have to control the ball…time of possession is critical this Friday,” Jay’s head coach Brian Watson stated. “They’re going to try and pound the ball and we have got to tackle better than we did last week against Walton. But, if we can control the ball and win the special teams battle, I like our chances.”
W.S. Neal and Jay is an old rivalry. The two schools used to play annually dating all the way back to the 1970s, but this year ‘s game will be the first time the two schools have played since 2002.
