Mac Cross Country Meet in the Jay City Park on Saturday. It was a beautiful day for Cross Country running and Luke Larkin, of Fort Walton Beach High, lead all runners with a time of 16:15. In the girls race, RayAnn Tutten from Pensacola Christian Academy, set the pace for all girls. 186 runners ran in the Varsity Boys 5K race and 148 in the Girl’s Varsity event. A third race was held after the varsity athletes ran and it included JV runners from several schools. Total participation was 440 runners. This is the largest contingent of runners ever assembled for the cross country race that is held annually in Jay. Several Running Royals set Personal Best times on their home course. The Royals were led by Chance Thornton (13th) in a time of 17:42. He was followed by teammates: Ramsey Reaves (104th); 20:35, Kenneth Garcia (134th); 22:08, Tanner Wolfe (136th); 22:16, Cooper Harrison (159th); 24:07, Mason Tutt (160th); 24:10, Eric Zhuo (171st); 25:30, Ryan Kelly (172nd); 25:30. For the Lady Royals, Leah Smith finished as the team leader in 54th with a time of 23:49. She was followed by: Kaitlin Harrison (104th); 26:11, Trinity Slade (117th); 27:20, Madilyne Saye (133rd); 29:04. Coach James McDaniel, in whom the race is named after, was present at the event and was honored with well-deserved recognition of his four consecutive State Team Championship titles for the Jay Girls Cross Country Team in 1987, 1988, 1989, and 1990.
