Sidney Nowling named Santa Rosa’s Rookie Teacher of the Year

Sidney Nowling, a Jay High School alumni, was surprised by Karen Barber, Santa Rosa County Superintendent, to find that she was selected as Rookie of the Year. Nowling, who teaches 5th grade, was selected by the Jay Elementary faculty as the school’s Rookie of the Year recipient. She was then selected as the district’s overall winner. Jay Elementary Principal Mary Grace White stated that “Ms. Nowling has successfully demonstrated an ability to conquer all the obstacles encountered during her first few years in education.  Sydney implements deliberate practices to ensure fidelity to core curriculum and enriches her lessons by incorporating technology, rigorous student engagement, and small group interventions.  Her high expectations are the key to the success of her students.”
