Lady Royals fall short in Championship
Clermont-The Jay High School Lady Royals have much to be proud of. Reaching the state championship game is an unrealistic goal for most teams. Winning a regional or even a district championship would be satisfactory for most softball programs and coaches…but JHS Softball isn’t most programs and Brian Watson isn’t most coaches. Reaching the final four is an expectation for these Royals and when they lose in the state championship, even by just one run, it really hurts. The fact that these are the real expectations is a testament to this coaching staff and these girls.
Down 4-0 after 5 innings, things looked bleak for the Royals. There had only been one hit up to this point off the Trenton picture and she shows no signs of slowing down…and then a two run home run came at the bat of Ella Nelson, then another by Kaitlyn Gavin tied things up heading into the bottom of the 6th. The Tigers were able to score 1 at the bottom of the 6th, taking a 5-1 lead. With two out and a runner on first, the Royals(25-6) popped out and the season came to an end.
The loss stings, as it should, but the Lady Royals have much to be proud of. This coaching staff has much to be proud of and the Jay community, who outnumbered the Trenton fans 2:1 in attendance on Wednesday , has much to be proud of.
Thanks ladies for working so hard and making the Town of Jay proud!
