The first day of spring brought a spirit of renewal at the Coon Hill Day 5K on Saturday. The event set several records for participants and finish times.
Overall winner, Leonardo Cornelius of Tallahassee, set a course record of 17:42. This was 14 seconds faster than the previous record set by Dr. Craig Henry in 2017. The Overall female winner was Kasey Morris who ran a fast 21:28.
Race Director and Coon Hill Cemetery Trustee, Matthew Dobson said, “It was a great day! We had over 160 finishers for this year’s event and that’s the most ever. I think many people want to get moving again. And today proves it.”
The Coon Hill Cemetery Trustees would like to thank all the sponsors and the faithful members of the Jay Volunteer Fire Department for their help with the event. The Coon Hill Day 5K is a community-wide fundraiser to preserve and maintain the oldest cemetery in Santa Rosa County—Coon Hill. The cemetery is 185 years-old this year.
