Royals Get Thrilling Homecoming Victory
Friday-What a game last Friday between Jay (3-4) and #5 Freeport (6-2). In front of a packed Merle V. North Stadium, the Royals put on a show in a wild, high-scoring game. The Royals scored 40 points in the first half to take a 40-26 lead into intermission. From the first possession, each team scored at will and answered back, trading scores until late in the second when the Royals’ defense was the first to get a stop. The Royals offense was then able to capitalize, giving Jay a two possession score at the break.
Freeport got the ball to start the second half and scored right away to cut the deficit back to a touchdown, but the Royals answered right back.
Freeport would score once more, but it was the Royals’ defense that stepped up in the second half and stopped the Bulldogs on a 4th and 9 play right at the chains, sealing the win for the Royals.
Judd Smith threw for 265 yards and 6 touchdown, 5 of which went to Brent Eister (243 receiving yards).
Next up for Jay is North Bay Haven(3-4). Game is played at Panama City Bozeman High School.
