Floridatown Park reopens with ribbon-cutting ceremony
Floridatown Park, Santa Rosa County’s most recent recreation area to receive renovations, will reopen to the public at a ribbon cutting ceremony on Mon., Feb. 18 at 2 p.m. A special historical presentation will be given by Adrianne Walker, site manager of Arcadia Mill.
Enhancements to the park include ADA accessibility improvements, renovations to the restrooms, and construction of an ADA-compliant playground, picnic pavilion, two half-basketball courts and a walking path. Repairs were also made to the boat ramp boarding pier.
As Floridatown Park is a recorded site with historical significance, all construction activities were monitored by a professional archaeologist. Artifacts uncovered during construction included pottery shards, glass beads, coins, kaolin pipe fragments and buttons from the Native, European and Early American Periods. Educational signage describing three significant periods in history will be installed at the park at a later date.
“We are excited to open another all-inclusive facility for our residents and their families,” said Commission Chairman Sam Parker, District 1. We invite the public to joins us in the ribbon-cutting celebration on Presidents Day and see this beautiful waterfront park for themselves.”
