Prep Football: Week 4

Prep games in week three for Milton, Pace, and Jay were all one-sided games. It was a good night for Milton and Jay, not so much for Pace. Week four appears to be full of much better match-ups.

Jay (2-1) @ Wewa (2-1)—Gametime 7:00pm

Last week Jay traveled to Meigs Middle School to face an undefeated Rocky Bayou team. While the Knights may have been undefeated before the Royals showed up, it was clear from the opening kickoff that the Knights were heavily outmatched by Jay. Jay scored on every possession until mass substitutions started late in the 2nd quarter. The Jay defense even scored a couple. Jay won 52-0, meaning the Royals have outscored their last two opponents 92-0. With that being said, the Royals’ week 4 opponent poses much stiffer opposition. Jay will get on a bus and travel for the third straight week when they make the 160 mile trek to Wewahitchka on Friday. The Gators, just as the Royals, are on a two game winning streak after they were shutout by Port St. Joe in week 1, 35-0. The Gators will be the Royals’ toughest opponent since Flomaton.

(Last year, Jay got its’ first win of the season, defeating Wewa 39-6.)

Catholic (1-2) @ Milton (2-1)—Gametime 7:30

The Panthers host Catholic this Friday. Milton defeated Fort Walton Beach last week 26-6. The Panthers outplayed the struggling Vikings last week and have a chance to really surprise many people in the area if they are able to keep winning.  Friday night the Panthers will face a much more formidable foe. While Catholic has lost a couple of early games, they were to, arguably, the best teams in the area  (Navarre and Gulf Breeze). Additionally, Catholic beat Choctaw 34-9 last week. Milton lost a thriller to Choctaw in OT in week 2. It will be interesting to see how the Panthers handle this week.

(Last year Milton defeated Catholic, 21-17.)

Pace (2-1) @ Washington (0-3)—Gametime 7:00pm

Pace looks to get back in the win column this week when they travel to Pensacola to face struggling Washington. Pace lost last week to a very, very talented Pine Forest squad, 40-7. Pace matches up much better with the Wildcats. The Patriots should be able to establish their running game and control the time of play this week. If the Patriots’ defense can limit the big plays, Pace should win this game.

(Last year Pace defeated Washington, 37-26.)
