Panhandle Butterfly House offers docent training and Kinderpillar School youth tours

The Panhandle Butterfly House is seeking seasonal volunteers to serve as docents Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, May through August. Volunteers work in teams, educating visitors on the biology and habitat of butterflies and their importance in our ecosystem. New volunteers are paired with seasoned docents to learn the ropes. Training will be held in the Navarre Visitor Center conference room, 8543 Navarre Parkway in Navarre. Contact pbhdocents@gmail.com for details and registration. Two options for docent training are:Friday, April 6, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Monday, April 23, 9 a.m. – 1p.m.

The Panhandle Butterfly House will also offer pre-scheduled Kinderpillar School tours for groups of 10 or more (including adults) Monday through Wednesday starting Monday, May 7 through the end of August. Admission is $2 per person.

Tours will consist of a basic lesson on butterfly conversation, the life cycle and habits of the butterfly followed by a journey through the vivarium, viewing live Florida butterflies along with their nectar and host plants, and the nursery showing metamorphosis. Larger tours may have rotations on beneficial insects and the ecology of the panhandle’s estuary.

The Panhandle Butterfly House is a nonprofit educational facility that brings visitors in close contact with live Florida native butterflies in gardens that support them. Dedicated to educating visitors on butterflies and the importance of protecting our pollinators, the Panhandle Butterfly House is located in Navarre Park on Santa Rosa Sound at the foot of the Navarre Bridge.
