Eric Godfrey was the 2017 Fellowship of Christian Athlete Challenger Award recipient for JHS’ football team. Every year a football player is voted on by the Royals’ football team to recieve the award. The recipient is a member of the team that exemplifies FCA qualities.
Godfrey was a vital part to Royals turnaround season that saw JHS go 6-5, make the playoffs for the first time since 2007 and beat rival Northview for the first time since 2004. Godfrey played free safety and wide receiver for Jay.
Football players from Escambia and Santa Rosa counties were fed at First Baptist Church of Pensacola. Speakers included the 1993 Heisman Trophy winner and FSU great Charlie Ward and fellow teammate Kez Mccorvey. This was the 49th year of tbe Challenger Award Banquet that began in 1968.
