Improving Royals Turn Attention to Chiefs

Immediately after losing to the #2 ranked Baker Gators, the Royals began focusing on Northview. Next Friday, the Chiefs will be traveling to Merle V. North Stadium in what should be a very competitive game with plenty on the line . Both Jay and Northview have one win on the season  (1-4 and 1-5 respectively) and both know the importance of Friday night’s matchup. Whoever wins on Friday night still has a chance for a winning record. And that’s exactly what the Royals are focusing on.

Since week one when the Royals got beat at Flomaton, Jay has shown progress every week. A one point loss to Cottondale in week two after the Royals had a 21 point lead could have lead other teams to quit. Not this team however. “Our kids play hard every night. I’m so proud of them.” stated head coach Melvin Kersey.

After Cottondale, a game against Rocky Bayou was postponed due to Hurrican Irma (October 30).

The Royals got their first win of the season a week later against Wewa in blowout fashion.

Next, the Royals travled to #6 ranked Escambia Academy and found themselves down only 6 at halftime. E.A. pulled away in the second half but again, the Royals never quit.

This past Friday, an outmanned Jay team traveled to Baker to face the undefeated Gators. To the shock of the Gators on their homecoming night, the Royals took a 21 to 20 lead in the third quarter. Baker pulled away in the fourth, but the game was much closer than the final score would indicate.

So now all attention has been turned to the current week. Northview week. It would be a mistake to throw this game aside based on records alone. There will be much on the line when the Chiefs and Royals meet on Friday night. Hope to see you there.
