Jean M. Chavis
Jean M. Chavis, born October 21, 1935, passed away September 3, 2017 in Pensacola, FL at the age of 81. She was a long time resident of Jay, FL, where she worked at Northwest Florida Rural Health Network. She enjoyed fishing, working in her yard and garden, playing her piano, singing, and watching NASCAR and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. But, out of all those things, her favorite was spending time with family. When she walked in, she would light up the room with her kind, loving, bubbly personality. She never met a stranger, and in her eyes, her grandchildren could do no wrong. She is preceded in death by her mother, Lucille M. Heffington and stepfather, Calvin Heffington, Sr., Husband, Kenneth R. Chavis, and son, Stephen Chavis. She is survived by, one son, Gary (Alicia) Chavis of Daphne, AL; two daughters, Kelly (Greg) Kimmons and Kimberly Chavis, both of Jay, FL; two brothers, Warren and Calvin; three sisters, Boots, Judy, and Pam. Six grandchildren; Jacqueline (Gary) Creel of Gulf Breeze, FL; Shannon Mulinex of Pensacola, FL; Ray Chavis of Milton, FL; Stephen Chavis; Josh (Amanda) Kimmons of Jay, FL; and Kristen Stewart (Kavin Borders) of Jay, FL. Seven great-grandchildren, and many other family and friends. Pallbearers will be Josh Kimmons, Kavin Borders, Chad Stewart, Mike Janes, Roy Reynolds, and Ken Blair. With Rev. Ladon Hall officiating. A visitation will be held Wednesday, September 6, 2017 from 6-8 pm, and the funeral will be Thursday, September 7, 2017 at 3 pm, both at Jay Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Cora Baptist Church Cemetery.
