JHS’ Students Add Art to Hallways
The hallways at JHS are a little more colorful this year. Last school year, the art students worked on adding art to the halls and they look fantastic.
“It’s about individual creativity, but it’s also about teamwork. In the real world we all must learn to work together to achieve successful goals. Students in the Jay High School Art Department last Spring created group murals that were hung over the summer in the schools hallways. Students worked in groups of four. They had to decide on one image that each group would agree on for their mural creation. Deciding on one idea for their group’s mural was a task in and of itself. Then the groups working close together to make sure colors matched, while keeping each person’s individual style. The project was a success! The framed murals are 30×40 in size and are a window style framing that has a small space separating each students piece to create the whole image. Name plates will be placed to the bottom of the frame indicating the artists that worked on each piece. The JHS Art Departments goal is to hang art in the halls as a living museum, to add color to the hallways. The students also created a large lion mural that has already been installed in the front office. There are 64 individual 8×10 canvases lining the wall to create one large mural. Each canvas piece done by individual students. It’s all about learning, making, and installing to show pride in the community that we live in.” Teresa Dobson – Art Educator
