Mary Stewart Smith (April 7, 1934 – May 24, 2017)
Mary Stewart Smith “Nana” Daughter of Fletcher and Lessie Stewart, Mary Stewart Smith was born on April 7, 1934, in Elba, Alabama. She went to be with the Lord on May 24, 2017, at the age of 83. She was best known as “Nana” and was dearly loved by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, her nieces and nephews, and many friends. She is survived by son David and his wife Kathy, 3 daughters: Carol and her husband Billy, Patricia, Tina and her husband Dana; 12 grandchildren: Michael, Karissa, Kimberly, Natasha, Brooke, Sheila, Shaena, Garrett, Brent, Josh, Caleb, and Christa, a special niece Twyla and her children Taylor, Reid, and Landon, 22 great grandchildren: Seth, Samuel, Valarie, Blake, Mathew, Mason, Solan, Kendall, Alaina, Judd, Preston, Kenley, Brynn, Ansley, Leighton, A.J., Haley, Brady, Darby, Leah, Anna, Kara. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Mary grew up in Chumuckla, Florida, and raised her family in Jay, Florida. She owned her own hair salon and Merle Norman studio. She had a huge influence on her children, and many nieces and nephews coming to know the Lord. After her grandchildren were born she started a tradition of sharing the Christmas story with them, which continued with her great grandchildren, including her last Christmas with us. She always loved reading and surrounded herself with lots of books. In her later years, she enjoyed traveling, she discovered her natural gift for gardening, and up to the very end, she took great delight in dressing stylist and getting new clothes. Services will be at Jay First Baptist Church, Saturday, May 27, visitation 12:30-2:30 p.m., funeral at 2:30 p.m., graveside to follow at Jay City Cemetery.
