Fowler continues to dominate the Southern dirt

Milton’s Ryan Fowler is a perfect 6 for 6 on the three-eighths mile dirt at Southern Raceway.

This past Saturday night Fowler dominated the race and held off challenges from Joe Phillips and Lucas Morris, who only got close to the back end of Fowler’s Open-Wheel Modified during one of the five restarts.

While Fowler ran away from the field, Phillips finished second, while Morris ended up third despite an two spins in the first half of the 20 lap feature.

Osman Jones crossed the line fourth and Samuel Mark Rast finished fifth.

With Fowler’s domination in all five appearances in the Open Wheel Modified division, there is talk of a possible “bounty” being place on him as a driver as of Saturday night.

As of press time it was not for sure if the management at Southern Raceway were going to put a bonus out for the first driver who can defeat Fowler on the dirt at Southern Raceway.

In the Pure Stock it was all Carl Dodson.

Dodson held off a late challenge from Jessica Donaldson during the final six laps of the race before her tires went away and she was relegated to third.

Jason Dollar finished third in the nine caution flag filled race, which included a couple of red flags. One of those red flags was for the car of Tony Boyd, which caught on fire on the entrance to pit road.

Hunter Ward brought out the last caution of the race for a spin on lap 14. After starting at the back of the lead pack he fought he way up to fifth just behind fourth place Blake Salakas.

In the Vintage division Aleck Alford and Martin Cuevas put on a show for the fans.

Alford led the first five laps before he and Cuevas traded the lead for the next four circuits.

By lap nine Alford regained the lead and it was Cuevas who was trying to play catchup.

On lap 18 Cuevas and Alford touched coming out of turn two and then touched and then spun in turn three bring out the final caution of the race.

When racing action resumed Alford took the lead for good with Cuevas following closely.

Rounding out the top five were Donald Hall in third followed by Andrew Locklear and Brandon Kilpatrick.

In the NeSmith Street Stock Milton’s Bo Bailey took the checkered flag while the action behind him kept shaking up the finishing order.

Matthew Holcomb finished third overall after taking advantage of a spin by Tim Wetzel on lap 10 to finish second despite his own troubles on lap eight.

Wetzel had his own problems on lap two when he almost took on the front stretch wall, but was able to slow before making contact as his car exited turn four.

Justin Abel rounded out the field in fourth place.

This Saturday, April 30, all four classes will be in action as well as a six pack shootout in the Open Wheel Modified division. The top six finishers will have a chance to add to their winnings in this special six lap dash to the cash following their feature.
