North Santa Rosa

Hobbs Middle School Civics Literacy Project

On December 7 Hobbs students delivered packs of early reader books to Bagdad Elementary’s Head Start and Pre-K classes and to Rhodes Elementary’s ESE Pre-K and Pre-K classes. Each middle school student was paired with an elementary student to read and then gift the books.  Each book pack had a personal note to the elementary student from his or her middle school buddy about the importance of reading.  Funds were raised in the community (Grover T’s BBQ, Ken Kincaid, Concrete Cowboys, Dance Academy of Santa Rosa) via sponsor letters composed by Terence Hall’s and Stacy Jones’s 7th grade Civics classes. School sponsors included Hobbs SGA, BETA, PBS, and History Club. This began as part of an initiative supported by Just Read, Florida! and the Florida Department of Education to encourage literacy in the community.
