RIVERWALK RUN 5K WON BY RILEY AND TRITTSCHUH

Run attracts runners from three Gulf Coast states

The inclement weather held off and the Milton Riverwalk Run 5K went off without a hitch Saturday in historic downtown Milton.

Two Miltonians took their respective divisions as Dewayne Riley took the men’s overall title with a time of 17:01, but he wasn’t even close to the record time of 15:46 set by Nate Crum back in 2011.

Riley crossed the line more than a minute ahead of his closest competitor Dan Vollmer who came all the way from Lafayette, La. Vollmer, who is 47, won the men’s masters title.

In the women’s division it was a little closer.

Karen Trittschuh took the women’s title by a mere three seconds over Susan Smith, who claimed the female masters title.

Trittschuh crossed the finish line in a time of 20:53, yet neither runner was close to the time Smith set back in 2013 of 20:12.

The seventh annual run drew runners from across Florida, Alabama, and Lousiana.

“We had a very positive event despite the threatening weather, which I felt might have deterred some regular runners,” said Kyle Kemp, Events Coordinator for the City of Milton Parks Department. “We got a lot of positive feedback about the run and we are looking forward to next year.

The mystery bib prize of $250 was won by walker Joan Grey.

The Milton Riverwalk Run 5K is used to help raise money to assist the City of Milton with its youth sports programs held at the Guy Thompson Community Center.
