Fall Formosan Termite Awareness Workshop in Santa Rosa County

GULF BREEZE – Rep. Doug Broxson (R), the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, and the University of Florida/Institute of Food and Agricultural Science’s Santa Rosa County Extension have teamed up to further educate our residents on how to best protect their homes and businesses against Formosan termite damage. The Formosan termite is currently one of the most destructive pests in the U.S. It is estimated to cost consumers over $1 billion every year for prevention, treatment and to repair damage caused by this insect. With its mild temperatures and high humidity, the Florida Panhandle is a known hotspot for Formosan termites. There is a small Formosan termite swarm coming this Fall with larger swarms right around the corner next Spring.

The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services and UF/IFAS Santa Rosa County Extension will present “Formosan Termite Tactics 101: 10 Ways to Win” workshop so that homeowners will be well prepared. Attendees will find out more about this invasive pest and simple strategies they can implement to protect their greatest investment. Homeowners are also encouraged to bring their pest control contracts for review by State experts to better understand their coverage.
