National Bullying Prevention Month
October is National Bullying Prevention Month. Bullying is a problem in schools, the workplace, public venues, and online. The Santa Rosa County Library System, along with communities across the United States, is observing National Bullying Prevention Month to raise awareness and prevent bullying in our community. Be a buddy, not a bully.

Close the Book on Hunger – Food Drive for the Bay Area Food Bank
The Santa Rosa County Library System has been feeding minds in our community for decades. Now, we would like your help feeding bodies as well. When you attend any program or visit any Santa Rosa County Library during the month of October, please bring a canned or boxed nonperishable food item to donate to the Bay Area Food Bank. Donations will be used to pack Thanksgiving meal boxes to benefit residents throughout Santa Rosa County. While we are happy to accept all nonperishable food items, the Bay Area Food Bank has expressed a need for the following: canned evaporated milk, cream of mushroom soup, canned yams/sweet potatoes, canned cranberry sauce, boxed stuffing, canned potatoes, boxed mashed potatoes, and canned or dry mix gravy. Please drop off your donations at any of the five Santa Rosa County Libraries in Gulf Breeze, Jay, Milton, Navarre, or Pace. You may contact your local library for additional information.

Storytime
Storytime for 3 to 5 year olds who are able to attend without a caregiver will be held during the following times from Sept. 21 through Dec. 11:
• 11 a.m. on Mondays at the Jay Library
• 11 a.m. on Tuesdays at the Navarre Library
• 11:15 a.m. on Wednesdays at the Milton Library
• 11:15 a.m. on Wednesdays at the Gulf Breeze Library
• 11 a.m. on Fridays at the Pace Library

Genealogy Research Assistance – Milton Library
Mondays 9 a.m. – noon
On Mondays from 9 a.m. – noon, library volunteers are available at the Milton Library located at 5541 Alabama St., to provide general genealogy research guidance; one-on-one assistance in using online and print genealogy resources for family researchers; and assistance in filling out ancestral charts and family group records. Beginners and seasoned researchers are invited to use these services. To ensure a volunteer is available to assist you, please call before you visit.

Heritage Holiday Tree – Gulf Breeze Library
Help us decorate the ultimate Gulf Breeze Holiday Tree. Drop off an ornament that represents your family and life in Gulf Breeze. Are you a big fan of fishing? Create a fun fish ornament. Do you play soccer? A soccer ball ornament with your family name on it would be great! Be sure to paint your name and the year on the ornament and let’s see how many Gulf Breeze folks we can get up on our tree. Tuesday, Dec. 1 is the last day to donate an ornament. The Gulf Breeze Library is located at 1060 Shoreline Drive in Gulf Breeze.

Hopeful Hearts – Navarre Library
Fridays, 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
A series of meetings for “Hopeful Hearts,” a bereavement support group, will be held at the Navarre Library on Fridays from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. The weekly sessions will address grief support and offer assistance, love and listening ears to those grieving over the loss of a loved one. All materials will be provided; refreshments will be served; and no reservation is required. There is no charge to participate. The programs are held at the Navarre Library located at 8484 James M. Harvell Rd. in Navarre.

Meet the Author – Jean Jones – Pace Library
Oct. 6, 3 p.m.
Visit the Pace Library on Tuesday, Oct. 6 at 3 p.m. and meet local author, University of Alabama alumnus, and licensed social worker, Jean Jones. She will be featuring her children’s book “The Tree That Went Bald.” The story helps children understand that change is a normal part of the growth process, and no one grows up alone, not even Mr. Tree! The Pace Library is located at 4750 Pace Patriot Blvd. in Pace.

Family Movie Favorites – Jay Library
Oct. 6, 5 p.m.
Spend time together enjoying whimsical movie favorites at the Jay Library on Oct. 6 at 6 p.m. Sing along to silly songs with animated characters. In consideration of all participants, programs will start promptly at the assigned times. The Jay Library is located at 5259 Booker Lane in Jay Florida.

Page Turners – Gulf Breeze Library
Oct. 9, 10:30 a.m.
Join us in the Gulf Breeze Library meeting room for our fiction book club. Page Turners meets at 10:30 a.m. on the second Friday of every other month. This month’s selection is “Defending Jacob” by William Landay. There is a limit of 20 participants, so please call the library or drop by to sign up and speak to a staff member today about reserving your copy! The Gulf Breeze Library is located at1060 Shoreline Dr. in Gulf Breeze.

Genealogy and Local History Fair – Milton Library
Oct 9, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
The Santa Rosa County Library System will host a Genealogy and Local History Fair on Friday, Oct. 9, at the Milton Library from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Over 15 local genealogical societies, historical societies, lineage societies, and other local organizations will share information and displays about their organizations and how those interested can be involved. Door prizes include books and annual subscriptions to several online websites, including Ancestry.com, Fold3.com, Newspapers.com and more. The event is free and open to the public. Star Wars Reads Day
The force is strong at the Santa Rosa County Libraries. There will be crafts, activities, costumes, galactic goodies, and contests. Check our online calendar for details. Friends of the Navarre Library Board Meeting – Oct. 12, 10:15 a.m.

Movie Matinee – Navarre Library
Oct. 13, 2 p.m.
GO, GO, GO, GO to the library to see Donny Osmond in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s magical family musical about the trials and triumphs of Joseph, his eleven brothers and the coat of many colors. Programs are held on the second Tuesday of each month and are open to the public. There is no charge or registration required. Refreshments are provided by the Friends of the Navarre Library. Solutions for Your Life: Biting and Stinging Insects – Gulf Breeze Library
Oct. 16, 10 a.m.
Controlling any pests begins with accurate identification. This month, Mike Donahoe will discuss biting and stinging insects in our area. You can learn the best way to avoid and eliminate the threat to your family. Programs are free and open to the public. The Gulf Breeze Library is located at 1060 Shoreline Drive in Gulf Breeze.

Classical Guitar Gathering – Navarre Library
Oct. 17, 10 a.m. – noon
Enjoy the elegant art of classical guitar with Jimmy Chandler and his students at the Navarre Library on the third Saturday of the month through December. Mr. Chandler is a local resident and classical guitar instructor with over 30 years of experience. He will host a series of gatherings to form a community for classical guitar enthusiasts, promote appreciation of the classical guitar, and provide opportunities for guitarists of all levels to meet, play, and learn. Music from all periods of history and countries will be presented and guest lecturers and performers will be included. The Navarre Library is located at 8484 James M. Harvell Rd. in Navarre.

Family Movie Afternoon – Pace Library
Oct. 20, 4 p.m.
Watch the story of the real Rocket Boys as they support Homer Hickam in his journey from a coal mining town to NASA. Along with the support of his teacher and three boyhood friends, Homer sets out on an inspiring quest to build his own rocket and reach for the stars. The Pace Library is located at 4750 Pace Patriot Blvd. in Pace.

Friends of the Library Week – Oct. 18 – 24
Have you joined your Friends of the Library? Library lovers everywhere are invited and encouraged to join your local Friends of the Library group. These dedicated volunteers advocate for libraries, raise much needed funds, sponsor programs and special events, and host popular used book sales. Teen Read Week Movie – Milton Library

“Get Away @ Your Library” with a movie in honor of Teen Read Week. Celebrate the day that Marty McFly transported through time. Friday With the Friends – Navarre Library

Fall into Fun
Oct. 28, 3 – 4:30 p.m.
Join us at your local library in Gulf Breeze, Jay, Milton, Navarre, or Pace to celebrate fall and to prevent bullying. Wear your favorite costume and enjoy a story and movie for preschool – 5th grade. In observance of National Bullying Prevention Month, we will show a movie starring Spookley, the official Spokes-Pumpkin. In consideration of all participants, programs will start promptly at the assigned times.
