Micah Kemp Named Cross Country Athlete of the Year

Congratulations to Micah Kemp for getting PNJ 2014 All Area Cross Country Athlete of the Year.

Athlete – Micah Kemp

Micah Kemp is an upcoming graduate of Jay High School. Micah has been running long distance since he was a 6^th grader. As a 7^th grader he went his first year to the State Cross Country meet in 1A. He scored for his team and the team was ranked 9^th overall back in 2008. Each and every year Micah has been consistent in his goals. He has qualified as an individual making it in the top 15 to go to State every year for the past five years (8^th-12^th grade) Winning Regions his senior year. Boy’s Head coach Matthew Dobson, former 2004 Disney Marathon winner, helped Micah reach new personal records this season.

Some of Micah’s accomplishments over the years are:

Cross Country:

• Competed at the State Cross Country meet 6 years straight (4 as individual). Best finish: 20^th place in 2013 with a time of 16:56 – 5K.
• 2013 1A District 1 Overall Champion with a time of 16:44 – 5K
• RECENT: 2014 J.D. Mac Invitational – Jay, FL: Broke Jay High School 5K record, set a new meet record, and set a new personal best with a time of 16:16.31 placing 1^st against all classifications. Came through the 2 mile mark in 10:17.
• District 1A Overall winner 2014 with a time of 16:37
• Region 1A Overall winner 2014 with a time of 16:38
• 31^st in State 1A 2014
• PNJ 2014 All Area Cross Country Athlete of the Year

Track and Field:

• Personal Bests
• 800m: 2:16
• 1600m: 4:54
• 3200m: 10:28 (Finished 6^th in 1A Region 1 with a 10:28 3200m)

Additional comments: To speak about Micah’s personality, would be to say one word that stands out “RESPECT.” He has tremendous respect for others. He takes advice from his coaches, and sometimes does his own research to see how he can improve his times. He studies his competition to know what it will take to succeed as an individual, and for his team. We are definitely excited about his career ahead of him in running and look forward to seeing his future accomplishments.

Coaches Matthew and Teresa Dobson were PNJ All Area 1^st team Cross Country their senior years; Matthew in 1986-87, and Teresa in 1990-91, both were PNJ All Area Track Athlete of the Year their senior years. Now Micah Kemp holds the honor of 2014 All Area Cross Country Athlete of the Year
