Sheriff’s Office Telephone Scam

Telephone scams have been increasing over the past few years. Several well-known organizations have been used as part of a scam where victims are contacted and solicited for payments.

Recently, the name of the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office has been used in a telephone scam to commit fraud. This is how it was used;

A victim was contacted by an individual posing as a Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Deputy. The caller stated the individual had an active warrant and payment for the violation could be taken over the phone to avoid additional fines and or arrest. The individual was aggressive in nature and stated the person named was going to be arrested if the fine was not taken care of right away. There was also a phone number left which did not belong to the Sheriff’s Office.

The Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office does not solicit individuals for fines or fees over the telephone. Our Warrants Division will occasionally send out postcard notices on a case by case basis. The Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office does not collect any fees involving warrants.

If you receive a call such as this, you may contact the Sheriff’s Office directly at 850-983-1100.
