May is Get Caught Reading Month. “Get Caught Reading” is a nationwide campaign to remind people of all ages how much fun it is to read.  Come on in and Get Caught Reading @ your library®!

 

Genealogy Research Assistance @ your library® (Milton)

Mondays 9 a.m. – noon and Tuesdays 1:30 – 3:30 p.m.

On Mondays from 9 a.m. – noon and Tuesdays from 1:30 – 3:30 p.m., library volunteers are available at the Milton Library located at 5541 Alabama St., to give general genealogy research guidance; one-on-one assistance in using online and print genealogy resources for family researchers, and assistance in filling out ancestral charts and family group records. Beginners and seasoned researchers are invited to use these services. To ensure a volunteer is available to assist you, please call before you visit.

Hopeful Hearts @ your library® (Navarre) – Fridays, 11:30 am – 12:30 p.m.

A series of meetings for “Hopeful Hearts,” a bereavement support group, will be held at the Navarre Library on Fridays from 11:30 am – 12:30 pm. The weekly sessions will address grief support–following an educational outline– and offer assistance, love and listening ears to those grieving over the loss of a loved one. The meetings will be facilitated by Jennifer Gilbert, MSW of Emerald Coast Hospice. All materials will be provided, refreshments will be served, and no reservation is required. There is no charge to participate.  The programs are held at the Navarre Library located at 8484 James M. Harvell Rd. in Navarre.

 

Tablet / E-Reader Workshop @ your library® (Navarre) – May 3, 10 a.m. – noon

Do you own a new tablet or e-reader? Are you confused about what your digital device can do or how to use it? If so, this workshop is for you. You may bring any tablet/e-reader device (I-Pad, Nook, Kindle, etc.). See a staff member for details. Participation is limited to the first 18 who register online.  The Navarre Library is located at 8484 James M. Harvell Rd. in Navarre.

 

Friends of the Milton Library Board Meeting – May 8, 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.

Board meetings are held at the Milton Library at 1:00 p.m. on the second Thursday of every other month beginning in January.  The annual meeting is held in December.  The Milton Library is located at 5541 Alabama St. in Milton.  Please visit the Friends website at http://friendsofthemiltonlibrary.wordpress.com for more information.

Come, Sit, Stay & R.E.A.D. with a Furry Friend in the Pace Library on May 10, from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. Registration is required. The program is held on the second Saturday of each month at the Pace Library located at 4750 Pace Patriot Blvd. in Pace. Contact the Pace Library for more information or to sign up.

 

Keeping a Healthy Hive @ your library® (Milton) – May 10, 10 – 11:30 a.m.

Doug Corbin, a state bee inspector, will discuss the habits and lifestyles of bees, beekeeping and hive health.  Bring your curiosity and your questions. Observe bees in a plexiglass case. This program will be held on Saturday, May 10 from 10 – 11:30 a.m. at the Milton Library located at 5541 Alabama St. in Milton.  This event is free and open to the public. Registration is not required.

 

Children’s Book Week @ your library® – May 12 – 18

Established in 1919, Children’s Book Week is the longest-running national literacy initiative in the country.  This week is dedicated to instilling a lifelong love of reading in children.

Board meetings are held at the Pace Library at 5:30 PM on the second Tuesday of every other month beginning with January. The annual meeting is held in March. This month’s meeting has been changed from May 13 to May 6. Classic Movies @ your library® (Navarre) – May 13, 2 p.m.

Who could ask for anything more? You don’t have to parlez français or even have rhythm to enjoy this month’s classic movie.  Join fellow movie lovers on the second Tuesday of every month at the Navarre Library located at 8484 James M. Harvell Rd. in Navarre for a showing of a classic movie. Each program is open to the public and there is no charge or prior registration required. Come with a friend or come meet a new friend!  Contact the Navarre Library for additional information.

Coffee Talk @ your library® (Gulf Breeze) – May 14, 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.

This month participants are each choosing a favorite title by Mary Roach and discussing her as an author.  The Nonfiction Book Club meets @ the Gulf Breeze Library study room on the 2nd Wednesday of every other month. Local Artists and Authors @ your library® – (Navarre) – May 16, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Join us on Saturday, May 16 at the Navarre Library where local artists and authors will be staged throughout the library, sharing their talents, signing books and discussing their works. Take time to enjoy ongoing demonstrations of floral arranging and jewelry-making. Some of the participants will have items available for purchase. Enjoy free refreshments courtesy of the Friends of the Navarre Library. We are honored to feature these local talents.

 

Container Gardening @ your library® (Pace) – May 17, 9:30 a.m.

Bring a chair or picnic blanket and join us on the back lawn on Saturday, May 17 at 9:30 a.m.  Master Gardener Eva Anderson will share tips about Florida gardening.  The Pace Library is located at 4750 Pace Patriot Blvd. in Pace.  This event is free and open to the public.  Registration is not required.

 

Brown Bag Lunch @ your library® (Navarre) – May 21, Noon – 1 p.m.

You bring your lunch and we’ll provide an exciting presentation from the county extension office’s Master Gardeners’ Speakers’ Bureau. The topic will be Florida Friendly Gardening. Gardening offers many benefits including fresh air, sunshine, exercise, enjoyment, mental therapy. Although Florida’s climate is famously hot and humid, a variety of plants can be grown year-round in Florida if attention is paid to the appropriate planting dates. The program will include a question and answer session. The brown bag lunch program is held the third Wednesday of each month at noon at the Navarre Library located at 8484 James M. Harvell Rd. in Navarre. The program is free and open to the public.

 

Hospice Hour @ your library® (Navarre) – May 30, 3:30-4:30 p.m.

Daina Skinner R.N., BSN, of Emerald Coast Hospice, will explain how hospice services work, what types of services are provided, and when hospice services might be beneficial. The program will be held in the Navarre Library Meeting Room, located at 8484 James M. Harvell Rd. in Navarre.

 

Pop In To Your Library to Register for Summer Reading – May 30

Pop in to your library and register for summer reading and receive a treat. Online registration begins for the 2014 Summer Reading Program for all children through 5th grade. Get a reading calendar at your library or print one online, and read for 15 minutes per day between June 9 and July 18 for great prizes! Three year olds through fifth grade students are invited to attend programs at the library (check the calendar for a list of events at your library)!
