Tuesday, April 29th, could be an ordinary night. It could be an average night where nothing extraordinary takes place. Or, it could be the start of something really special. It could be the night that the JHS Softball team looks back on as the start of their 2014 playoff run. A run that they hope ends in the state championship in Vero Beach, Florida.

The JHS softball team comes into the playoffs this year as the district champs and with a 21-3 record. They are the three time defending district champs as well. Their opponent in the first round is a familiar foe… well, sort of. Go back in time to the great ice storm back in early February of this year. The Saturday after that record breaking, and weird storm, the softball team traveled to play the South Walton Seahawks in a preseason contest. The result was a 1-1 tie. Much time has passed though since that first meeting. The Seahawks, coached by Bob Hartness, post a 14-10 record and enter the playoffs as district runner-ups. But in softball, just as any sport, records do not guarantee the outcome. Nevertheless, the Royals feel good entering Tuesday’s game, as long as they play to their potential.

“We need to play our game. Worry about Jay. Don’t worry about the other team, but take of what we control. Pitch well and hit well and good things will happen,” stated Coach Brian Watson. Indeed the Jay community will be hoping for good things to happen Tuesday night. The Jay faithful softball crowd realizes that Tuesday night’s game will bring in extra folks. People who may not have come to a game all year will come out to support our Lady Royals start their playoff run, making space on the bleachers a little more tight. But it is a welcomed sight. Bring a camping chair, buy a hotdog, and come out to a night at the ballpark that could be the start of a special playoff run. We invite you to come and make this Tuesday, April 29th a special night by supporting these ladies and coaches who have put in countless hours of hard work in the weight room and on the practice field all leading up to the playoffs. 7:00pm. Come early!

The city of Jay is ready to play ball!
