Two Santa Rosa County Master Gardeners Honored for 25 Years of Service
On Dec. 11 Sally Menk and Johanne Fleming, two Certified Florida Master Gardeners in Santa Rosa County, were honored for 25 years of service at the Annual Awards Banquet for the Santa Rosa County Master Gardener Association held at UF IFAS Extension Santa Rosa County in Milton.
In 1988 Sally Menk and Johanne Fleming graduated from the very first Florida Master Gardener training class in Santa Rosa County and went on to serve the residents of Santa Rosa County for 25 years. Certified Florida Master Gardeners are specially trained volunteers who disseminate research-based horticulture information from the University of Florida IFAS to children and adults through workshops, teaching gardens, school programs, plant clinics and many other programs.
“These two ladies, Sally Menk and Johanne Fleming, have donated thousands of hours over the years to encouraging the love of gardening to members of the community, solving their gardening problems and promoting Florida-friendly landscaping principles that help preserve our water quality. Their dedication is inspiring,” commented Mary Derrick, the Residential Horticulture Agent and Master Gardener Coordinator for UF IFAS Extension Santa Rosa County.
