West Florida baseball add signees

pace playerPENSACOLA, Fla. – West Florida baseball head coach Mike Jeffcoat is proud to announce five early signees for the Argonauts for the 2013-14 academic year.  Jacob Benefield (Pace, Fla./Pace HS), Dawson Brown (McDonough, Ga./Georgia Perimeter College), Jon Hagan (Orlando, Fla./Orangewood Christian Academy), Trumon Jefferson (Dekalb, Ga./Georgia Perimeter College) and David Moorhead (Pensacola, Fla./Tate HS) all signed national letters of intent with UWF during the NCAA’s early signing period.

“Our fall class is one that fills our needs for the future and will have an immediate impact with the program,” said Jeffcoat.  “Assistant coach Shane Gierke has done an excellent job in balancing this class with three high school position players that have a tremendous upside and two junior college players that should step right in and fill our needs in the outfield and on the mound.”

Jacob Benefield (pictured below) is one of two local products to sign with UWF and is a 6-foot-1-inch, 180-pound shortstop and pitcher from Pace High School.
– Quote from Gierke: “Jacob is a versatile player that will help us on the mound and as a position player. I think Jacob’s arm strength is his biggest tool, and we are looking for big things in the future. We are excited to see Jacob develop through our program the next four years.”
