16th Annual Pensacola Double Bridge Run Less than Three Weeks Out

On Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, 4,000 runners will be hitting the streets of Pensacola and Gulf Breeze for the Double Bridge Run Presented by Publix.  Race organizers are expecting the event’s first-ever sell-out of 2,500 in the 15K portion and 1,500 in the 5K race.  The 2011 race was recently named the 11th Largest 15K Race in the country by Running USA.

The course for the Double Bridge Run is arguably one of the best around as it encompasses three cities, two bridges, and two bodies of water.  It starts in historic downtown Pensacola, travels over the 3-Mile Bridge over Escambia Bay, through the coastal community of Gulf Breeze, onto Bob Sikes Bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway, and finishing on beautiful Pensacola Beach.

“We feel we have the best 15K course in the country,” said Ray Palmer, executive director of the Pensacola Sports Association, the event’s managing organization.  “The view from the top of Bob Sikes Bridge looking out over the beach and seeing the horizon of the Gulf of Mexico is breathtaking.”

In addition to the great course, participants are treated with a picturesque finish line and upbeat post-race party that includes three bands, free food, drinks, and an award ceremony.  New this year, every 15K finisher will receive a commemorative finishers medal when they cross the finish line.

On Saturday, Jan. 19 from noon to 5 p.m., athletes can stop by Running Wild, located at 3012 E. Cervantes St., to sign up for the race. Race staff will be on hand to accept race applications.  Just for signing up, participants will receive a free gift.  The same great deal will be available to those that have already registered, while supplies last.  Additionally, all registrants can enter to win free gifts from Brooks, Asics, Newton, and more. For those needing a new pair of shoes, Brooks is offering an additional free gift with any Brooks purchase.
