Lady Royals Advance to State in Cross Country
The Jay Lady Royals Cross Country team is STATE BOUND! All the hardwork of the past five months of training has paid off as the girls finished 4th out of 13 teams. The top 6 teams advance to State. The Lady Royals were the only public school advancing for 1A Region 1 Meet. As they go to battle, once again as in years past they may be the only public school represented at the 1A State Meet. So they take pride in their accomplishment to represent public schools for next weekend. Jay girls had two of their runners who not only advance as part of their team but also as individuals. Sophomore Jessica Thornton placed 5th overall with a time of 20:28. Eighth grader Jorja Agrait placed 13th overall with a time of 21:10.
The boys Jay team didn’t fair as well in the overall standing as they finished 12th out of 15 teams, but improving their 1A District 1 standings to 2nd behind PCA. Sophomore Micah Kemp was the lead runner for Jay as he advances to the State meet for the Royals. Micah worked hard, as he completed the race in 17:26, coming in 13th overall. This is his 4th year to make it to State, once with the team his 7th grade year and every year after that as an individual. “These kids have come a very long way to get to advance. I look forward to how they will run at the State meet next Saturday, November 17th and Apalachee Park in Tallahassee.” Coach T. Hendricks
