Lady Royals Win Cross Country District 1 Championship Meet
Lady Royal’s Cross Country team won the District 1 – 1A Championship meet at Lake Jackson this Thursday, November 1st. The boy’s team finished 4th overall. Both teams will advance to the Regional meet held next weekend, November 10th at Sunny Hill Farms in Tallahassee. Top runner for Jay was sophomore Jessica Thornton, 2nd place overall, with a time of 19:39. The top 15 runners automatically advance to the Regional meet, the Lady Royals had four girls to make it in the top 15. The Jay Royals boy’s top finisher was sophomore Micah Kemp, 4th place overall, with a personal best time of 16:25, a new school 5K record, and also puts him as a new National Elite runner. The boy’s team had two in the top 15 runners, Micah Kemp and Cody Wolfe who ran 7th place with the second best time for the team, and a personal best time for himself of 17:43. Great accomplishment!
I am very proud of them. It takes the will to prepare for any win, and a team the believes in themselves. This team believes in themselves, they know that in Cross-Country, that you must want to do good as an individual first, then the team becomes stronger, and by doing just that, this is why they are District Champions!
