Royals Fall at Home to the Tigers 28-14

 

 

Royal fans who traveled to watch the Royals play Graceville last year saw the Royals loose a hard fought battle, but left discussed because of many questionable calls by the officials. Sadly the Royals where unable to get their revenge. Losing another tough one to Graceville 28- 14.

Jay  recieved the opening kickoff and stalled on their first drive.   The Royal defense  stopped the tigers on their first possession also, but the punt was muffed by Jay and the Tigers took over deep in Jay territory.  Six plays later on a 10 yard run Graceville scored. The PAT  was good making the score 7-0 with 4 minutes left in the first quarter.

Jay was unable to go anywhere on their second drive and punted to Graceville. The tigers fumbled on the second play from scrimmage and Jay’s Brandon Boutwell recovered.   Jay went to the red zone but was unable to score and turned the ball over on downs to the Tigers.  Graceville had a couple of first downs but had to punt and Jay started their next drive on the 50 yard line.

Upton had a couple of good passes along with an pass interference call to set up a wonderful  20 yard pass to Dillashaw that brought the Royals to the 1 yard line of the Tigers.  With first and goal, the Royals handed the ball to halfback, Ricky Cofield, who punched it in for the Royals first touchdown.  PAT was good and the score was tied 7-7 with a little over 4 minutes left in half.

Graceville drove the ball down the field aided by a pass interference call against the Royals.  Royals’ Dillon Sims, made a great tackle in the backfield, but with 3rd and goal and 42 seconds left in the first half the Tigers scored.  Making the score 14-7 at the half.

Graceville started the second half off on offense and scored quickly on a 78 yard run (21-7).  The rest of the third quarter was quiet.  Jay Royals started the fourth quarter playing some great football.  The Royals were gaining ground on the Tigers, when Upton connected with Dillashaw on a 81 yard touchdown pass.  This shortened the Tigers lead to 7.  (21-14)

Jay quickly forced the Tigers to punt after a short 3 and out drive.  Jay fumbled on their first play of the drive and Graceville recovered and ran the ball in for a touchdown. (28-14)

Jay threaten to score again when Upton once again went to Dillashaw with a  51 yard pass.  The Royals had the ball at the 10 yard line but was unable to score and turned the ball over on downs.

The final score was 28-14.  The Royals go on the road next Friday to face the Freeport Bulldogs.
