Andrews Institute Launches “Krutches for Kids” Drive
Drive to aid student athletes throughout Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties
The Andrews Institute, an affiliate of Baptist Health Care, announces the launch of the “Krutches for Kids” drive, a fundraiser urging parents to donate gently used crutches to their school for student athletes in need.

“Hundreds of experienced crutches are languishing in the homes and garages of former athletes across Escambia and Santa Rosa counties,” said Larry Lasky, certified athletic trainer at the Andrews Institute. “We are committed to recycling these crutches and distributing them to those students who need them the most.”

The “Krutches for Kids” drive will run through Monday, Dec. 31. Crutches can be delivered to each high school’s in-house certified athlete trainer in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties.

For more than 10 years, Baptist Health Care and the Andrews Institute have been placing certified athletic trainers in every high school in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties, providing complimentary sports medicine coverage, as well as health and safety information and injury prevention education through theirSports Medicine Outreach program.

“A pair of crutches can enable a child to rejoin their friends in the classroom and on the playing field. Crutches optimize the success of injury rehabilitation and provide those student athletes in need a chance for a safe and speedy recovery. In addition, it gives back a sense of mobility, independence and hope, which makes it all worthwhile,” said Lasky.
