The Royals hosted the Baker Gators Friday, October 19th at Merle V. North stadium. The first half went well for the boys in blue. But the second half proved to be a frustrating one for the Royals as the team fell short 48-21.

Baker kicked off to Jay to start the game. A short kick and a good return by Colton Williams put the ball on the 47 yard line . Four plays later, thanks to a long run by Ricky Cofield and a pass interference call against Baker , the Royals had the ball first and goal on the 5 yard line. After 4 attempts to punch the ball in the Royals were sadly unable to score.

Baker took over and drove the ball down the field eating up the clock. And with 10:08 left in the second quarter, Baker’s B.J. Thomas ended the long drive taking the ball in from three yards out. Baker was on the scoreboard 7-0.

Jay got another great kickoff return from colton Williams. Then Jay drove the ball deep into Baker territory, only to fumble and Baker recovered. Baker’s second drive went 3 and out. Jay’s offense scored quickly on their next drive. Quarterback Tate Upton, threw a pass to Hunter Dillashaw, who went 65 yards to put the Royals on the scoreboard. The PAT was good and the scored was tied 7-7 at the half.

The second half proved to be a very disappointing for the Royals. Baker recieved the kick off and ran it all the way back to score. Then Jay went 3 and out and punted. The Gators drove the ball down the field in 4 plays and scored. Just like that 2 touchdowns. 21-7 Baker. Adam Crowson, Baker’s quarterback put the Gators on the scoreboard again with an option play in the third quarter advancing the lead to 28-7.

Jay also scored in the 3rd on an impressive drive highlighted by: a 16 yard run by Cofield, a 16 yard pass from Upton to Dillashaw and an 11 yard touchdown run by Cofield. But Jay couldn’t stop Crowson from Baker, who went 40 yards to set up on a 2 play drive capped off by DJ Thomas’s 15 yard touchdown to end the scoring in what turned out to be an awful 3rd quarter for the Royals.

Baker scored once more in the 4th when a bad snap on a punt attempt by Jay gave the Gators great field position. 41-13 Baker with 10 minuets left to play. A bright spot in the 4th quarter for Jay fans was a Ricky Cofield run for 44 yards and a touchdown . Ricky also threw a pass to get the 2 point conversion. Jay almost scored again late in the game. Unfortunately the final score was 48-21 in Baker’s favor.
