Alzheimer’s Family Services to offer free training for new volunteer program

Alzheimer’s Family Services is seeking individuals who are interested in making a difference in the lives of caregivers and in supporting the organization. Alzheimer’s Caregivers Assistance, Reach-out and Educate (CARE) Volunteer Training will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 25 at Covenant Hospice located at 2001 N. Palafox St. The workshop is free and open to the public. A light breakfast and drinks will be provided.

Alzheimer’s CARE provides trained volunteers to care for caregivers. Volunteers may assist with telephone support, make visits, run errands, deliver educational materials and provide short breaks for caregivers. These simple services make a profound difference. Individuals who have cared for a loved one with Alzheimer’s or other dementias understand the tremendous needs that caregivers may experience.

No special background or experience is required to volunteer for Alzheimer’s Family Services. Time commitment is flexible and based on volunteer availability. Please call Sandi Huster at 202-1169 for more information or to reserve your space.

Alzheimer’s Family Services is a not-for-profit organization serving individuals and families in Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa, and Walton counties, Fla. as well as Escambia and Baldwin counties, Ala. Our mission is to provide education and emotional support through a variety of services including: memory screens, support groups, tracking devices for wandering patients, respite, and counseling. All services are provided through private donations and grants.
