Royals Win Over Seahawks

The Royals win on the road at South Walton 29-6.

Jay shut out the Seahawks 16-0 in the first half. Jay’s defense  really played awesome.  The South Walton Seahawks received the opening kickoff went 3 and out and  punted.  Jay slowly marched the ball down the field on their first drive.  The Royals connected on a few key passes from quarterback, Tate Upton to Hunter Dillashaw and a 17 yard run by Ricky Cofield.  The Royal offense stalled at the 8 yard line and had to settle for a field goal by kicker, Dakota R. Smith, to make the score 3-0 Jay.

The Seahawks were able to get only one  first down on their next drive, the Royal defense stopped them and the Seahawks had to punt. The punt was a good one  that pinned Jay down at the three yard line with just seconds left in the first quarter. On first down Ricky Cofield turned what should have been a safety into a 97 yard touchdown a great run that will probably be on the channel 3 news . Cofield is the kind of talent that can at times carry a team to victory. As the first quarter ended the score was 10-0.

The Seahawks were again unable to move the ball and the Royals started their next drive on the 4 yard line. The  Bad field position didn’t stop #4  Cofield, Jay’s agile and illusive running back had a 69 yard run all the way down to to the Seahawk 27 yard line.  A few plays later quarterback Upton connected with Ashton Dennington  for 4 yards and the touchdown.

Jay threaten to score again but turned the ball over on downs on the Seahawks  11 yard line.  Upton scrambled for 16 yards and almost scored but an illegal block brought the ball back.  As the half ended the score remained 16-0 in Jay’s favor.

The third quarter was slow.  Both teams fumbled and lost the ball.  The Royals were unable to get the ball moving on the ground but tried a couple of big passes to get things going. One pass from  Upton to Dillashaw for 18 yards put the Royals at mid field. Then the drive appeared to be stalled but Jay faked the punt and punter, Ashton Dennington ran the ball 27 yards to the 30 yard line. Next a personal foul penalty against South Walton put the Royals on the 13 yard line. Three plays later with a reverse to Dillashaw the Royals scored their third TD of the game. The PAT was not good bringing the score 22-0 Jay.

In the fourth quarter the Seahawks were able to get some completed passes and scored on a 37 yard pass with 9 minutes left in the game.  Jay fumbled the ball on their next possession and the Seahawks went to the air again. Just when the Seahawks were about to get back in the game.  Tate  Upton came up with an pick six  on the 2 yard line. He was able to run it back 98 yards.  It was good to see Tate make another big play on defense, he is an exciting football player with a superb abilty to make plays on both offense and defense. The PAT was good increasing the Royals lead.

The Seahawks tried to move the ball in the air again and this time Dillashaw intercepted a pass.  Time ran out as Jay took over possession of the ball with the final score 29-6.

Jay fans who stayed late were treated to a performance by the Excellent Jay Royals Marching Band who were unable to perform at half-time due to South Walton’s Homecoming festivities.

Jay will travel to Northview next week to face the Chiefs.
