Tragic Accident On Hwy 4
A tragic accident occurred Monday, Sept 24 in the evening around 8:30 pm on Hwy 4 in Berrydale. Local resident, Joshua Davis Holland lost his life in the crash.
A 1988 Ford pickup driven by Holland, 30, of Jay was northbound on Gordon Land Road attempting to cross State Road 4 onto Mason West Road. A semi being driven by William Connell, 47 of Ochlocknee, GA was westbound on State Road 4. Holland failed to yield to the semi westbound, entering into the path of the semi on Westbound State Road 4.
Connell attempted to swerve right to avoid the pickup, but was not able to avoid the collision. The front of the semi struck the right side of Holland’s pickup on the westbound lane of State Road 4. Impact forced both vehicles onto the north shoulder, west of the intersection.
Holland’s truck came to final rest on the north side of State Road 4 and west of Mason West Road facing northwest. The semi came to final rest facing north, in the field on the north side of State Road 4, west of Mason West Road.
Josh Holland was pronounced deceased on scene. The passenger, Lacey Defay Harris, 22, in Holland’s truck was flown to Sacred Heart Hospital by Baptist Lifeflight and is listed in Serious condition. Connell refused medical treatment on scene.
