Jay Royals Slay the Rocky Bayou Knights

The Jay High Royals traveled to Destin to face the Rocky Bayou Knights Friday, Aug. 31. The Royals took command of the game and never looked back winning easily 67-21.

Jay received the opening kickoff and started play with a 15 yrd run by #1 Braden Cross. This was followed by a short yardage run by Ricky Cofield #4; then  with only one minute into the game Cofield went all the way with a 64 yard touchdown.  The PAT by #19, Dakota R. Smith was good.  7-0 Jay;

Rocky Bayou gained some momentum on the first drive only to be stopped on downs at the Jay 22 yard line.  Jay was forced to punt (#2, Ashton Dennington) on their second possession.  Rocky Bayou again was forced out on downs and Jay started their third drive on their 27 yard line. It looked like the drive was stopped and Jay punted, but there was a flag for roughing the kicker and then a facemask penalty gave the Royals 15 more yards bringing them down to the 25 yard line of the Knights.   Quarterback Tate Upton on the first and ten, had a broken play,  then picked up his own fumble, and ran the ball in 25 yards for a touchdown. The PAT by Smith was good. 14-0 Jay.

Rocky Bayou had to punt on just three plays.  Receiving for Jay, #7, Hunter Dillashaw, had an amazing 55 yard return scoring a touchdown.  Jay kicked off  to Rocky Bayou and they marched to the 39 yard line but a blocked pass by # 74, Jason Knight brought their drive to an end.

Jay took over and had a 23 yd. run by Cross, followed by a short 8 yrd run by Cofield.  Upton had a 26 yard keeper, then Cofield took the ball in the remaining 4 yards.  The PAT was good, 27-0 Jay.

Rocky Bayou could not advance on the Royal Defense and punted.  Dillashaw had a 30 yd return then Cofield had a broken play fumble, picked it up, reversed the field and scored on a 44 yarder.  The PAT was not good.  33-0 Jay.

With 2 minutes left Jay once again had the ball and Cofield broke into a 55 yard touchdown run.  PAT was good. 40-0 Jay.

Rocky Bayou threw an interception with less than a minute left to play to #22, Colton Williams.  Williams had a long run back and as he neared the goal line fumbled the ball, #30, Brandon Boutwell,  picked up the ball  for Jay and ran the ball in for another touchdown.  The PAT was not good. 46-0 Jay.

Braden Cross was the offensive leader for the Royals in the second half with a 55 yard run for a touchdown and a 65 yard return.  Rocky Bayou scored 21 points in the second half.

Jay will travel to Holmes County High School next Friday, Sept. 7th.

Other District 1 Class 1A  games: Northview wins over John Paul Catholic( 60-0) and Baker wins against South Walton 26-21. Freeport fell to Fort Walton 48-14.
