Sacred Heart Pediatric ER Moves to New Location, Offers Extended Hours
Sacred Heart Hospital in Penscola recently relocated its Pediatric Emergency Department to a newly renovated area inside the former EmergiCare area, located inside Heart and Vascular Institute. The new area will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and features a separate entrance for pediatric patients, pediatric-dedicated emergency medicine physicians and nurses, and state-of-the-art pediatric monitoring equipment. EmergiCare patients will be re-routed to the main Emergency Department entrance, while Pediatric ED patients will be directed to enter through the Payne Building’s main entrance. ‘Our Patient Experience Team has been working hard to improve our patients’ experience,’ says Vicki Baker, Director of Emergency Services at Sacred Heart Hospital-Pensacola. ‘Implementation of these initiatives and relocation of the Peds ED and EmergiCare will help to optimize patient throughput and patient experience. We will increase efficiency by having all adult patients cared for in one area of the department, and we are excited to be able to more effectively care for our pediatric patient population in an environment that solely focuses on the special care and needs of children.’ Free valet parking will be available in front of the Payne Building, located to the left of the Heart and Vascular Institute main entrance. The Sacred Heart Hospital Emergency Department treats more than 90,000 patients annually, of which 27,000 are pediatric patients. Work has been underway for several months to implement initiatives to enhance patient satisfaction.
