SHOTS FIRED – – CALL LEADS TO PURSUIT AND ARREST IN MILTON

On 6/3/2012 at approximately 0511 hours, Deputies responded to the area of Waylon Drive and Deaton Bridge Rd (Milton) in reference to two subjects exchanging gunfire in front of 6540 Waylon Dr. Upon arrival in the area of Waylon Dr and Deaton Bridge Rd, Deputies stopped their cars side by side blocking exiting and entering traffic with their emergency lights activated. Dispatch gave deputies a description of the suspect truck: a copper colored Dodge pickup. Immediately following that radio traffic, a copper colored Dodge Ram rounded the corner and headed towards the deputies. Deputies yelled “Stop the truck” multiple times. The truck stopped briefly but then began to roll forward. Deputies continued to yell for the driver to stop the truck. The driver floored the truck and started heading directly at the deputies. As deputies were about to shoot at the vehicle, the truck veered to the right, away from the deputies, and drove around their cars. Deputies got into their patrol cars and pursued the vehicle northbound on Deaton Bridge Rd. with lights and sirens activated.

The vehicle was pursued northbound for approximately 7 miles until the driver lost control of the truck and crashed into a mound of dirt and came to a stop against a tree. Deputies ordered the driver out of the truck and detained him. The driver of the truck, Jeremy Bowman, spontaneously uttered that there was an unloaded gun under the seat, and the magazine was in the glove box.

Deputies located a .45 caliber pistol under the drivers seat and a magazine in the glove box that fits the pistol. Deputies then went back to 6540 Waylon Dr to speak with the complainant, Roy Anderson. Anderson told deputies that he woke up and heard someone driving a truck through his yard damaging his lawn. Anderson went outside to see what was going on and realized that the truck belonged to his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend, Jeremy Bowman. Bowman and Anderson have had tension between them for a few months, so Anderson went inside and grabbed his shotgun and fired a round into the air. Bowman then fired multiple shots from a handgun while in a moving vehicle on a public roadway as he exited the neighborhood. Bowman reentered the neighborhood and argued with Anderson again and tried to get him to engage in a fight.

After being arrested, Bowman told deputies that he had been drinking all day and that he had at least 20 beers throughout the day. Spent shell casings were located in the area of the shooting (in the roadway) and in the bed of Bowman’s truck. Bowman was arrested and charged with: Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, High Speed Fleeing and Eluding, Discharging a Firearm while under the Influence of Alcohol, Discharging a Firearm in Public, Criminal Mischief, and DUI. He is currently being held in the Santa Rosa County Jail with a $105,000.00 bond.

Suspect: Jeremy Dewayne Bowman, 31 years old, W/M, 11000 block of Boundary Line Road, Milton, FL
