Laney signs with Huntingdon
Todd Laney, a senior at Jay High School is signing today with Huntingdon College. Todd is the son of Tim and Vicki Laney. His grandparents are Estelle and the late Ray Laney, along with B.D. and Virginia Hendricks. Todd has one brother Tanner Laney.
Todd plans to attend Huntingdon College, where he will baseball for the Hawks. Todd signs today along with Tyler Prescott, teammate and friend. Todd has been on the Jay High team for 4 years where he currently plays outfield, does some pitching and fills in at shortstop. He has played baseball from a young age and started in the Jay Recreation League.
Laney plans to study for a degree in Pre-professional pharmacy. He is receiving an academic scholarship from Huntingdon.
Todd has many accomplishments from his time at Jay. He has lettered in three sports: Baseball 4 years, Basketball 4 years, and Football 2 years. He was voted Team Captain in basketball, Jr. and Sr. year ; Sr. leader for baseball for this year. He was also voted “Most School Spirit for the Class of 2012 and organized Jay High School’s first student section.
One career highlight for Todd is being able to go to state championship tournament for baseball in 2010. He also is thankful for having the opportunity to be associated with hardworking teammates and the whole town of Jay.
A valuable lesson Todd has learned at JHS is that hard work pays off. “ It’s not the size of the dog in the fight, it’s the size of the fight in the dog” Todd is fond of saying.
Todd has been influenced by characters Bo and Luke Duke, athletic star, Michael Jordan, and many of his friends and family members.
Congrats Todd! The Uptons and Watsons will sure miss you. It won’t be the same without you and Tyler out there on the field or court with Tate! Best of luck!
